Flashes for Hope is a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds for research and patient support for children with cancer. The real draw of the organization is, however, its emphasis on photography. Flashes for Hope works to create a lasting memory of children fighting against cancer by photographing them during this time. With its strong focus on fundraising, Flashes for Hope also provides a multitude of options for volunteers to assist in gaining support and funds.
One of Flashes for Hope’s more prominent fundraising programs is called Kick-It and focuses on raising money through outdoor kickball games (as well as some other athletic events). The program was founded by a 10-year-old cancer survivor who wanted to have a kickball game to support research for a cure, and has continued to grow ever since. Every year, Kick-It hosts a national day of kickball tournaments and games, called WAKA, which raises money. WAKA Leagues are spread throughout the country, which makes attending or donating to the group simple, and all funds support research efforts concerning children’s cancer. To find your local league or donate, visit the WAKA 2016 page at www.kick-it.org/games/2016/12/waka-2016.
